Catherine graduate in rattan furnisher from the National Basketry School Fayl-Billot in 1979. She can be proud to say that she is the first female rattan maker of France! After her studies, Catherine and her husband, a willow grower and basket maker himself (“meilleur ouvrier de France” – a craftsmen competition in France, held every four years), establish their workrooms in the village of Villaines-les-Rochers, the hotspot of basketry in France.
Right at the heart of the Indre valley is where she enriches her weaving know-how for over 30 years. In 2003, she wins the award “coup de cœur d’art contemporain” (contemporary art favourite) of the “S.E.M.A” (Société d’encouragement des métiers d’art – French corporation of Arts Masters) which reveals her creativity and enhances her desire for freedom. She founds her own company in 2010 and gives free flow to her imagination and sensitivity.
She also shares her passion for osier and passes on her know-how during professional and discovery workshops: 2 people at the time at the most to assure best quality coaching.
Contemporary furniture, decorations, lamps, … the objects are tailor-made for your home or garden. Nothing can stop Catherine’s imagination, neither innovative objects nor big dimensions!
The workroom “L’atelier Romand’Art” has been awarded the "Atelier d’art de France" label (French art room) - the first of the basket maker profession. Basketry is now officially recognised in its artistic dimension.
