Meet Christine in the charming village of Saché, at the heart of the Indre valley, which inspired the famous author Balzac. Her workroom is called “Plume et Brin d'osier”: feathers and wicker twigs. Christine loves birds and the plant world.
A self-taught basket maker, she creates original objects and invites you to discover her world and baskets with ornithological accessories.
She proposes daily guided tours upon reservation and takes you for a walk through the histoiry of basketry in Villaines-les-Rochers, a hotspot for basket markers’ know-how in France. Strolling through the roads of this troglodytic village, she will make you meet craftsmen and discover the osier cultivations. You will see basket makers weave the wicker twigs with dexterity, creating traditional and modern objects.
The young and the old alike can also reserve weaving workshops for beginners.
A nest box for the Eurasian wren or the blue tit? Woven with osier or made of bark, Christine’s creations are unique and much more than just decoration: put up at the right place in a garden they might become a passerine’s new nest.
And her guided tours are very pleasant and interesting. You discover the troglodytic village of Villaines-les-Rochers, its treasures and heritage in a joyful and privileged way.
