The Baffou marsh is a former village poplar grove. With the help of the Park, this wetland has undergone important restoration works in order to regain a natural area conductive for biodiversity.
During your walk, you will notice that this apparently calm site is full of animals and plants with an exciting life. They all live their lives, but also depend on each other: the palmate newt is the flirt of the ponds, the Great diving beetle is an athletic psychopath … get to know them and try to observe them.
Close to a pond, you can discreetly admire many different amphibians and other species thanks to an observatory and a wooden viewing platform.
Open your eyes while you walk! You can be sure to see a damselfly … or is it a dragonfly? What’s the difference? That’s easy: the dragonfly keeps its wings open when resting, the damselfly doesn’t!
Visit the Brézé castle before you leave. It has the deepest dry moats of Europe, an over 1 km long underground network and a dovecote dating back to the 17th century.
