May 1970. It’s market day in Doué-la- Fontaine. Louise is a smart woman in her fourties, married to a well-known nurseryman and rose grower. She invites you to look at the bright rose side of life in her town!
Use the discovery booklet to follow her around and better understand landscapes and parts of the place’s history. Mushroom farms, former quarries, smoking fields and troglodytic caves: she will take you to the most unexpected places of the town.
The heritage trail speaks to all your senses and indulges you in the town’s history: imagine Doué-la-Fontaine covered by the sea or busy washer women chatting at the wash house. Look out for the “jittes” (pipes connecting the surface to the wine cellars) and discover the secrets of roses … you well learn all about local life above and under earth!
Where can you find the discovery booklet? The printed version can be purchased for only 1 € at the “Mystère de Falun” welcome desk. There is also a free download link on our website.
You can add two of the Park’s favourite visits to your walk:
- “Mystères de faluns” (Shelly stone mysteries), an exceptional troglodytic site unique throughout Europe.
- The Bioparc, the only troglodytic zoo of the world offering total immersion into a plant and stone labyrinth with more than 1000 animals. Doué-en-Anjou has even more to offer.
